FFXIV – Battle Gameplay Updates

Posted on May 12 2010 - Posted in FFXIV, News

Yesterday was a new gametime session for Final Fantasy XIV. Lots of people were quiete disappionted in the gameplay up to this point. The waiting and working was worth it,  if we take a look at the video below. The Battle is still not going flawless, but it is a real difference to the videos before. [...Forums]

We are starting up with fighting a rat and a roseling. this time more  specifically and we get rewared for that.  Still Annoying is the left General-Chat window, getting flooded amazingly, showing  you everything whats going on around , except whats important for your own current happenings. The Video shows also a battle against an Aldgoat Nanny. Two things caught my eye at this battle:  the archer chose the flight instead of the fight , and yet he gets killed by the mount thats half a mile away. The other thing is the lack of flow when the archer is attacking the aldgoat and it gallops nearby but does absolutely nothing. Almost 10 seconds are passing by and the archer ridicolously misses the goat , standing  3 feet in front of him. Nonetheless there have been lots of improvements, though. I am sure the pressure that bears on Square Enix , through that leaks and plenty of remarks on youtube will be a constructive one with a benefit for everyone who is looking forward to the game.

Well… besides the bugs and stuff.. the game is looking better and better ; D

Hopefully the battles will pick up in speed. 10 Seconds for an ability to activate is quite a lot. Just the 4 seconds of WAR made it boring. But its only Alpha, in Alpha you focus on bugs, not settings :)

the reason the shots are taking so long is because he is letting the bar fill to level 3 which will cause the most dmg but takes a while to charge. he could fire really fast if he wanted but it wouldnt do as much dmg.

I’ve played a lot of online games, and so far, FF14 looks exceedingly slow; not only does the gameplay look sluggish, but it also seems to involve very little meaning or flow. Unless they significantly improve on the combat system, FF14 is unlikely to have a bright future. FF11 was a pretty slow game as online games go, but it’s looking like so far FF14 is even slower. I can only hope the finished product never has you waiting more than 2-3 seconds to perform an action.

Honestly, I play.. well am currently play FFXI right now. Just afk from it to see the vid. This is the same attack speed as ranger on FFXI. The only difference in combat is no auto attack. So it “appears” slower. MMos are not ment to be fast pace, that causes lag. Plus if you watch the interview you would understand the why. He designer said it was so players can be more tactical, and work as a team instead of trying to out do each other. A flaw in FFXI. Out of honesty play rng in FFXI. If you play it with just bow and arrow or gun and bullets of a corsair, it does take time to hit a mob. I think the spead is the same out of honesty. They just removed the auto attack which was another flaw, as players used it to go afk w/o notice. You to make them only pay attention 30%-50% of the party time. Which was bad because players paid for it. Also, if you notice the network the guy lags alot while fighting. Should take that into consideration before assuming.

to V again if you actually play rng or cor with just gun or bullets, thay are not fast hitters. :) the attack speed is the same as if you was to macro /ra there is a 3-5 sed wait between attacks. There is also a wait system between abilities. FFXI or FFXIV was not ment to be a boring button mash ez win game. They are all about tatical and making you think. Plus most MMO that are fast pace don’t work well on consuls. Remember this game is coming out for both ps3 and pc world wide at once.

“MMos are not ment to be fast pace, that causes lag”

Indefensible. Look at WoW. EVE. Even the original Jumpgate was fast paced and that predated FFXI by a few years.

FFXI was a horrendously coded relic by WoW standards. For example, when they added Enspell2 for RDM they ended up breaking something entirely unrelated on SCH. Every big update came with several ninja patches (and yes they also ninja nerfed) to keep the bugs away. Sure lag won’t go away, but the game had more holes in the code than swiss cheese.

I understand the improvements here, but to somebody who’s never seen this before, it’s classic FF “staredown while my action bar loads” gameplay for better or worse. I can only imagine someone migrating from WoW, this would look like slow motion.

Big fights really illustrate the need for tactics better, one-on-one fighting is pretty tame.
